Your garden is a place where you relax, play with your children, receive guests and work. In order for you to enjoy a beautiful garden you need to take good care of all the plants that thrive there. You may associate gardens with flowers and trees. But ornamental shrubs are just as impressive. You can enjoy their presence all year round. At the same time they are not demanding and difficult to cultivate. They create a permanent composition of the space. Properly selected shrubs enrich the soil with valuable nitrogen, protect it against landslides and stop erosion processes. Because of their independent growth, many owners do not give them enough attention. Ornamental shrubs should not be planted too densely as this will disturb their natural habitat. Also remember to trim them regularly. Another necessary condition for proper growth and development is their fertilization

Types of fertilizers

Natural fertilizers

Contain a broad spectrum of most micronutrients. They are obtained from organic substances. The easiest way to prepare them is to compost biological remains. The most commonly used are: manure, compost, manure and biohumus. These are usually applied before planting or during the growing season, preferably in the fall

Liquids and gels

This is the fastest form of nutrition. It only requires dilution in water and regular application. However, it is easy to overdo it – pouring too much can harm the plant. Therefore, these preparations are not recommended for beginner gardeners

Fertilizers in granule form

You can find two varieties of this fertilizer on the market: fast-acting and long-acting. These are spread directly on the soil. Granules are the most commonly recommended type of fertilizer by professionals for ornamental shrubs.

Fertilizers in the form of sticks and tablets

One of the most convenient forms of fertilization. Sticks and tablets contain the necessary nutrients which are gradually released into the ground. Thanks to this there is no risk of damaging the roots of plants.

Soluble fertilizers

These are modern mineral preparations. They are sold in sachets and cartons, the content of which is dissolved in the amount of water specified on the package. The substance is used for watering plants, as well as for spraying. Very popular among gardeners and plant amateurs because of its rapid action and easy application

When to fertilize ornamental shrubs?

Plants have the highest demand for nutrients at the beginning of vegetation and during the greatest growth. Use special preparations 2-3 times a year. A lot depends on the individual preferences of a given variety and when it has an increased flowering period. Remember that the older the plant, the less often it needs fertilizing. The optimal weather for fertilization is cloudy, windless days, before rainfall.

IMPORTANT: If small children or animals play in the garden, pay special attention that they are not interested in spilled granules, sticks or tablets. These can lead to serious poisoning or severe allergic reactions. Some are also poisonous

If you have decided to use one of these products, do not forget to read the instructions on the package. The manufacturer has certainly included there proportions, important tips and recommendations. If you regularly use preparations for ornamental shrubs, you will avoid pale and brown leaves and deficiency of ingredients, and your plants will remain phenomenal and handsome.
